I
looked into her eyes The
sparkle still as bright I
looked closer, the twinkle said it all Our
love will never falter. Her
body now frail Covered
up with a shawl For
the winter she could not bear But
there is still the sparkle in her eyes Her
chapped lips tucked Beneath
the blunt red lipstick The
stained teeth stashed away Well
covered by these lips. With
trembling legs she moved Clutching
her cane Walked
towards me My
stare caught her off guard. I
saw a tint of love in her eyes The
love that led us to the garden bench For
twelve years and a half And
then it all ended. And
now four decades later Her
chapped lips opened up And
her smile once again Made
us walk the beaten path.
