Abacus

Abacus

Abacus, the logic flourished.
Fingers pushing, sliding the beads along the wire,
Units, tens, hundreds, thousands.
Adept fingers and a little deftness are all one needs.

To add, to subtract, to multiply and to divide.
The skilled fingers slide the beads,
Almost to perfection till the physical gave way,
To push the imaginary beads over the virtual wires.

With deft fingers moving, the virtual beads in the air;
Faithfully working on the abacus that was now its virtual self.
Adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing,
A calculation executed with logical precision.

The abacus gave way to the calculator
First the analog, then the digital.
Then the worksheet,
And now all in an app.

Faster and faster the calculations done,
Logic and deftness, are never now required.
For one’s finger is all that matters.
Till one day thoughts will replace the fingers.
